Oxygen is a pure performance optimization mod - no new items, no gameplay changes. Designed for heavy modpacks like Calamity + Infernum + Wrath of the Gods + Thorium where boss fights can drop to single-digit FPS. Every feature is independently toggle-able from Mod Config (client-side only). What it does • Dust culling & parallelism - removes off-screen dust, caps density, and runs the update loop across multiple CPU cores using IL patching • Projectile parallelism - runs visual-only projectiles (damage=0, non-hostile) in parallel; damage-dealing projectiles always run sequentially • NPC AI throttling - reduces AI update frequency for distant non-boss NPCs; never touches bosses or boss segments • Gore culling - removes off-screen gore after a configurable timeout • Sound throttling - prevents the same sound from playing more than N times per window • World update throttling - halves grass/biome spread update rate during boss fights (singleplayer only) • Lighting optimization - skips off-screen Lighting.AddLight() calls, reducing background thread work • GC management - switches to SustainedLowLatency GC mode during boss fights to reduce pause spikes (disabled by default) • Diagnostics overlay - per-system frame time breakdown with rolling averages (disabled by default) Multiplayer Safe for co-op. All systems have guards for MultiplayerClient vs Server contexts. Client-only features (dust, gore, rendering) run on each client independently. NPC throttling is disabled on non-host clients to prevent desync. Disclosure Parts of the code and documentation were written with AI assistance (Claude). All logic was reviewed and tested by the author. This mod is a personal project published in case others find it useful, no expert support is provided. Source available on GitHub under AGPL v3.
