Many More Mobs Expand the limits of Terraria's world with far more NPCs at once. Many More Mobs can raise the engines hard 200-NPC limit to a configurable total (currently hard-capped at 1500 ). The Max NPC budget is split across four categories [Town / Boss / Critter / Enemy] , letting the screen fill up with an expansive horde of enemies while town NPCs and bosses always have room to spawn. If you would prefer vanilla 200-limit, a Default mode leaves the regular 200 entity cap untouched, instead despawning low-priority mobs to guarantee important spawns like Town NPCs and Bosses. Please DO read the Warnings section Disclaimer This mod was built with use of AI Assistance . The mod has been testing has been limited, mostly solo tested locally. The mod patches the game engine at a low level and is still very much in early access ! Expect rough edges, please play on a fresh world, with a fresh character , please report any bugs/oddities you find, feedback is greatly appreciated! Github: https://github.com/FunctionF9/Terraria-ManyMoreMobs Features • Raised NPC cap (Expanded Mode) • Lift the vanilla 200-NPC limit up to a configurable total (default 750). • Town NPCs and Bosses stay in the native low slots, so housing, saving, boss health bars and the map all keep working; enemies and critters fill the expanded slots. • Four-category budget • Town / Boss / Critter / Enemy, each with its own slot count, so a flood of enemies will never block out town NPC spawns or a boss fight. • Default Mode + despawn-to-make-room • Keeps the vanilla 200 limit but still get smart prioritization for high spawn-rate playthroughs. • Low-priority mobs (critters first, then far-off enemies) are despawned to prioritize town NPCs and bosses. • Full-size multi-slot Bosses always fit • The Destroyer and Eater of Worlds always spawn with every segment, even in a packed world. • Spawn controls • Global 'spawn rate' and 'max active spawns' multipliers, with optional per biome overrides for fine-grained pacing instead. • Spawn-item tuning • Config page to amplify, weaken or disable every spawn-affecting item (Water Candle, Battle Potion, Peace Candle, Calming Potion etc...). • Event scaling • Lengthen invasions and Moon Events so they don't become trivially short at high spawn rates. • Old One's Army spawn-rate and wave-length controls. • Horde combat assists • Per damage class (Melee / Ranged / Magic / Summon): no pierce-falloff (piercing shots and whips keep full damage across a crowd instead of decaying to nothing), extra pierce, anti-tunnel (fast projectiles hit every enemy along their path), and "melee hits all in swing". The ones that fix behaviour vanilla balanced around a handful of enemies are ON by default, the rest are opt-in. Config Explanations Mode: Default vs Expanded • Default keeps Terraria's 200-NPC limit and does no engine patching - the safest, most compatible choice. • The category caps become ceilings within the shared 200, and the mod despawns low-priority mobs so Town and Boss spawns always succeed. • Expanded raises the limit to Max Total NPCs . Here the four category caps are a hard reservation and should, for the best experience, sum to the value of Max Total NPCs (default 40 + 160 + 25 + 525 = 750). • Town and Boss live in the native 0-199 slots; Critter and Enemy live in the expanded 200+ slots. • Changing Mode, Max Total, or the caps requires a mod reload. Expanded Slots Explained Only relevant if you're playing with Expanded Mode ON . Picture the NPC list as two stretches: the Default engine slots (0-199) and the Expanded slots stacked on top (up to your Max Total NPCs). • Town NPCs and Bosses fill from the bottom up, so they settle into the Default 0-199 slots. That's the whole trick to keeping housing, saving, boss health bars and the map working like vanilla - which is why their caps only go up to 200 combined. • Critters and Enemies fill from the top down, so they live up in the Expanded slots. The four caps decide how that budget gets split: • Ideally they add up to your Max Total NPCs (the defaults already do: 40 + 160 + 25 + 525 = 750). • If they add up to LESS , the leftover slots simply sit empty - totally fine. • If they add up to MORE , the caps scale down evenly so everything still fits under the cap. • The zones aren't hard walls, if the Expanded slots ever completely fill, enemies fall back into any spare Default slots instead of refusing to spawn. • One catch - if you DO overflow the Expanded slots (Enemy + Critter set combined value equals higher than; Max Total NPCs - 200), the enemies spilling down into the low slots can crowd out Town NPC / Boss spawns. • The despawn-to-make-room safety net doesn't yet tell low- from high-slots in Expanded, so recommend keeping Enemy + Critter caps within the Expanded space (the defaults already do) and you're golden. • For the best Expanded experience; MaxNPCTotal = ((TownNPCCap + BossCap equal 200) + (CritterCap + EnemyCap = (MaxNPCTotal - 200))). A proper fix is on the way. Want a bigger horde? Raise Max Total NPCs and the Enemy cap together, bumping the total alone doesn't do much, since the Enemy cap is what actually decides how many enemies the world holds. Warnings • EXPERIMENTAL CAP RAISE - Expanded mode patches the engine at load. Default mode does no patching if you want to play it safe. • If running Expanded mode, test on a backup world first or preferably create a new world + character for playthrough. • PERFORMANCE scales with NPC count - very high caps plus high spawn rates will most likely lower FPS. • MOD COMPATIBILITY - other mods that also add lots of NPCs or touch the spawn system may interact unpredictably with Expanded mode. • Any other mods interacting with the NPC spawn system could very well interact unpredictably, attempted blanket fixes have been implemented but is no guarantee. Known Bugs and Limitations • Multiplayer is experimental , MP fixes (ON by default) for critter catching, i-frames and debuffs. - Less broken, still fairly untested. Please report bugs. • Config sliders snap and jank with wide ranges, a limitation of tModLoader's default config screen. A nicer custom config UI is a dream for later. • Expanded mode only: if you push Enemy/Critter caps past what the Expanded slots can hold ((Max Total) - 200), the overflow can block Town NPC / Boss spawns - despawn-to-make-room doesn't tell low from high slots in Expanded. Recommend keeping the four caps within Max Total NPCs (defaults do). • Enemies in the expanded slots don't yet have custom map icons / bestiary polish. This list will grow and shrink as playtesters report issues - thank you for the feedback! Developed By FunctionF9
