YouTube Music Player Listen to your own music while you play. Search YouTube from inside the game, build playlists, skip songs and jump to your favorite part, all from a Dead Sea Scrolls menu. REQUIRED What Why How to get it Windows 10 or 11 The audio player uses Windows PowerShell and media components Already included in Windows Internet Searching, and the first time each song plays Songs that already played also work offline You do NOT need to install Dead Sea Scrolls : the menu comes inside this mod. No other mods are needed. Linux, Steam Deck and Mac are not supported. RECOMMENDED: REPENTOGON The mod works without REPENTOGON , with two differences: • No paste link: the option only appears with REPENTOGON. Without it, add songs with search. Importing playlists also needs it. • Less exact pause: with REPENTOGON the music pauses the moment the pause menu opens. Without it the mod cannot recognize that menu, so it waits about 0.7 seconds of paused game. Other long pauses, like boss intros, also pause the music for a moment. REPENTOGON is not a normal mod and subscribing to it is not enough: follow its install guide. INSTALLATION (ONE TIME ONLY) • Subscribe to this mod. • In Steam, right-click The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth and choose Manage, then Browse local files. • Open the mods folder, then the folder whose name starts with youtube music player . • Double-click Install Music Player.bat and press Y to confirm. It downloads yt-dlp and adds a small hidden program to Windows startup. That's it. You never have to run it again: from now on just open the game the way you normally do. No extra windows and nothing else to start. WHERE IS THE MUSIC MENU? • Start or continue a run. The menu does not exist on the title screen. • Stand in a room with no enemies, projectiles or bombs. If you hear a buzzer, the room is not safe yet. • Press C or F1 on the keyboard, or click an analog stick on a controller. These are the default Dead Sea Scrolls keys, and you can change them in its settings. • If you have other mods that use Dead Sea Scrolls, choose YouTube Music Player from the list. If not, the music menu opens directly. Moving around the menu: arrows or WASD to move, Enter, Space or E to select, Backspace or Q to go back. HOW TO USE IT Add music • search : type the name of a song on your keyboard and press Enter, then pick a result. If nothing is playing it starts; if something is playing it joins the list without interrupting. Backspace erases, and Backspace on an empty box goes back. • paste link (with REPENTOGON): copy a YouTube or YouTube Music link in your browser, then press this. You can copy several links at once. • Import a whole playlist (with REPENTOGON): copy the link of a YouTube or YouTube Music playlist or album and use paste link . It becomes a new playlist in the mod, up to 500 songs. It must be public or unlisted, so private playlists and your Liked Music need to be changed first or copied to an unlisted one. A small message at the bottom of the screen confirms where each song went, and a song already in that playlist is not added twice. An imported playlist is a copy: changes on YouTube don't reach the mod, and changes in the mod stay in the mod. A song link opened from inside a playlist adds only that song, so copy the link of the playlist itself. Control the music • play / pause, next, previous • The position bar works like the one on YouTube and shows the time of the song. Select it and press left or right to jump 5 seconds, or hold to move faster and faster. The jump happens when you let go. • volume, shuffle and mute game music , which silences the game's own soundtrack while your music plays. Playlists • Open playlists to see them all. The arrow marks the one in use, and new songs go there. • + new playlist creates one. Pick a playlist to play it, rename it or delete it. • Pick a song to play it, move it up or down, remove it or send it to another playlist. • Long playlists are shown in pages of 20 songs. A keyboard is needed to type searches and playlist names. Everything else works on a controller. WHEN DOES THE MUSIC PLAY? • Only during a run. It pauses in the pause menu and on the title screen, and continues from the same spot when you come back. • It keeps playing while you use the music menu, so you can hear what you choose. • It stops when you quit the game and never starts by itself. Press play when you want it back. HOW IT WORKS AND WHAT IT INSTALLS Isaac mods cannot connect to the internet or start programs, and Steam cannot run anything when you subscribe. That is why the one setup step exists and why the audio plays outside the game. Please read this before installing: • A hidden watcher starts with Windows and waits for the game. It uses about 75 MB of memory the whole time your PC is on. Your antivirus or Windows may ask about it. • When the game opens, the watcher starts the music player. Both have no window, and the player closes when you quit. • The player uses yt-dlp (about 25 MB, from its official GitHub page, checksum verified) to search YouTube and download the audio of the songs you play. yt-dlp checks for its own updates about once a week. • Audio and yt-dlp are stored in %LOCALAPPDATA%\IsaacYouTubeMusicPlayer . Each song takes a few MB. • Your playlists are stored in the mod's normal save data. Nothing is collected or sent anywhere except your searches and songs to YouTube. • All scripts are plain text. You can read them in the player folder of this mod. HOW TO REMOVE IT • Best way: run Uninstall Music Player.bat from the mod folder before unsubscribing. It removes the startup entry and can delete the downloaded files. • Already unsubscribed? The watcher removes itself from startup the next time you open the game. To delete the leftover files, use the copy of the uninstaller in the folder above. TROUBLESHOOTING • "music player not running": normal for a few seconds after opening the game. If it stays, run Install Music Player.bat again. • "restart the game to update": the mod was updated while the game was open. Close the game and open it again. • The menu does not open: check that you are in a clear room during a run. • A song shows an error and is skipped: private, age-restricted, region-blocked or live videos cannot be played. • A playlist will not import: make it public or unlisted and copy its whole link again. • Search or downloads stop working: YouTube probably changed something. Delete yt-dlp.exe from the folder above and open the game to get a fresh copy. • Titles look odd: the menu font only has basic characters, so titles are simplified and cut short. • Your own shortcut mods: the game's R, F and M keys and instant-restart mods are blocked while typing. Other mods with keyboard shortcuts could still react. Developed on Repentance+ v1.9.7.17 on Windows 11, and played mainly with REPENTOGON.
