Koakuma A new playable character has been added: the Koakuma, The Stage 4 midboss of Touhou Koumakyou ~ the Embodiment of Scarlet Devil. Join Koakuma and discover the unique charm of all kinds of magical books! Koakuma is a relatively weak devil who was summoned by Patchouli and became her familiar. Calm and composed by nature, she is responsible for organizing Patchouli’s daily schedule. However, she also has a capricious, mischievous side and sometimes acts without thinking things through. She currently serves as the librarian of the Scarlet Devil Mansion’s Great Library. Koakuma is a flexible and versatile support character. During combat, she collects a variety of magical books. Once their True Names are revealed, these books unleash extraordinarily powerful abilities. She can also adjust her hand through reading and decipher the skills she needs to deal with complex and ever-changing battles. Choose your magical books carefully, adapt the skills in your hand, and toy with your enemies! However, this flexibility and powerful support capability come at a price: using magical books carelessly can severely clog up your deck. Watch out for Koakuma’s little pranks~ Overall, this character was expanded from my Koakuma mod for Chrono Ark. However, when designing Koakuma for Chrono Ark, I already drew a great deal of inspiration from the Koakuma mod for Slay the Spire 1, so you may notice quite a few familiar design elements. Sorry! As with the Chrono Ark version, in order to make her more distinctive —and to indulge in a tiny bit of personal preference— Koakuma also incorporates elements from one of my favorite visual novels: The Witch’s Love Diary . Should Koakuma spark your interest in the game, feel free to experience its charm for yourself~ Of course, just like Koakuma in Chrono Ark, this version of Koakuma also involves a great deal of clicking and repetitive interaction. I recommend enabling “Simplified Magic Book Collection” in the mod settings. This option barely reduces Koakuma’s overall strength, while significantly improving the gameplay experience. As for the other two options, “Simplified Reading – Reveal” and “Simplified Reading – Return,” those are largely a matter of personal preference. “Simplified Reading – Reveal” does result in a noticeable loss of power, but it is still reasonably acceptable. “Simplified Reading – Return,” on the other hand, is almost impossible to recommend.
